Booking Terms

These are the terms you agree to when you book a trip with People & Places. They are written plainly on purpose. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you pay rather than after.

Before You
Book

Questions about a booking or about these terms reach a person, not a queue.

Booking a trip

How a booking is made
You send us an enquiry, we confirm what is available and agree the details with you, and we send you payment instructions with a booking reference. Your booking is confirmed once we have agreed the details and received your payment.
Availability
Day tours can run on most days with advance notice. This is not a fixed daily departure schedule, so a date is only yours once we have confirmed it.
Prices
Prices are shown in US dollars. On the multi-day package the final price per person depends on your group size and room occupancy, which we confirm with you before you pay.

Paying for your trip

You pay $400 per person to secure your trip, and the balance before you travel. The rest of this section is the detail for each kind of trip.

The Just Go Ghana package
A non-refundable payment of $400 per person confirms your dates and comes off your total. The balance is due 30 days before you arrive, and you can spread it across instalments in that time or settle it in full whenever you like.
Custom and tailored trips — planning is free
Tell us what you have in mind and we will design the itinerary, price it and send it to you. Nothing is due while we do that, and you are under no obligation once you have it.
Custom and tailored trips — securing your dates
Once you are happy with the itinerary, a non-refundable payment of $400 per person confirms it and comes off your total, with the balance due 30 days before you arrive. If you cancel after that point, the securing payment is not returnable and neither is anything we have already paid to hotels or partners to hold your trip.
Day tours
Paid in full at the time of booking, with no deposit and balance split.
Day tour prices assume three travellers
Every day tour price on this site is per person for a group of three or more. Travelling alone or as a pair adds $20 to $30 per person depending on the tour, and some tours only run with three. We confirm the exact figure with you before you pay anything.
How to pay
Bank transfer or Mobile Money direct to us, or by card through Taptap Send, a regulated money transfer app. However you pay, the money reaches us as a transfer and we never see or hold your card details.
Sending us proof
Send us a screenshot or receipt with your booking reference so we can match your payment to your trip.

Rooms and sharing

Hotel prices on our multi-day trips are based on two people sharing a room. If you are travelling alone, you have two choices and we will settle which one before you pay.

Sharing with another traveller
We can pair you with another solo traveller of the same gender, and we tell you that you have been paired before you travel. A shared room is usually two beds, but in some hotels it is one large bed. We will tell you which.
Having your own room
You can have a room to yourself for a single supplement. We quote that figure with your itinerary, before you pay anything, and it never appears later as an addition.
If we cannot find you a roommate
You get the room to yourself and we do not charge you the supplement. Failing to find you a match is our problem, not your bill.
If sharing is not working out
Tell your host. If the hotel has another room we will move you, and you cover the single rate for the nights that remain. If the problem is the other person's behaviour rather than a preference, we move you at our own cost and our conduct terms apply to them.

Changing or cancelling

Cancellations, refunds and rescheduling have their own page, because they are the terms people most need to find. Nothing here replaces them.

Where the terms are
See our Cancellation & Refund Policy for the full timeline, the rescheduling fee, and what happens if we have to cancel.
Talk to us early
If your plans change, tell us as soon as you know. Options that exist 45 days out often do not exist 10 days out.

What you are responsible for

Travel insurance
Cover is required on every trip, and proof is due 30 days before you travel. See our Travel Insurance page for what your policy must include.
Passport and visa
A valid passport and any visa you need are yours to arrange. We can share general guidance, but we are not a substitute for your embassy or high commission.
Vaccinations
A yellow fever certificate is required to enter Ghana and you may be asked for it on arrival. Any other vaccinations are a conversation for you and your doctor.
Getting here
International flights are not included in any of our prices. You book your own travel to Kotoka International Airport.
If you are turned away
If you cannot travel because a document, certificate or flight was not in order, that is treated as a cancellation and the usual terms apply.

Health, access and comfort

Tell us early
Let us know about any health condition, mobility need, dietary requirement or comfort preference when you book, so we can plan around it rather than improvise on the day.
What we cannot promise
We will do everything we reasonably can, but some heritage sites have stairs, uneven ground and narrow passages that we cannot change. We will tell you honestly which parts of a trip may be difficult.

Photographs and video

We photograph our trips, and those pictures are how people who have never been to Ghana decide to come. We also know some of these places are deeply personal.

What booking means
By booking you agree that we may use photographs and video taken during your trip on our website, our social media and our marketing.
Saying no
Tell us at booking, or at any point during the trip, and we will not use pictures that show you. You do not need to give a reason and it changes nothing else about your trip.
Changing your mind later
If something is already published and you want it taken down, write to us and we will remove it.
At the ancestral sites
We do not photograph guests at Assin Manso, Cape Coast Castle or the Door of No Return for marketing without asking on the day. What happens there is yours.

On the trip

Your host decides
Your tour host has final say on routes, timings and whether an activity can go ahead safely. It is their call on the day.
Changes we may make
We may adjust a route, a site or an accommodation where weather, road conditions or safety require it. Any replacement will be of equal or greater value.
Conduct
We expect guests to treat our team, other travellers and the people whose homes and workplaces we visit with respect. Behaviour that is disruptive or disrespectful can end a trip without a refund.

What we are and are not responsible for

The trip we run
We are responsible for planning and running your trip with reasonable care, and for choosing our drivers, guides and partners carefully.
Third parties
We are not responsible for the independent acts of hotels, airlines, restaurants and attractions that are outside our direct control.
What cannot be excluded
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that Ghanaian law does not allow us to exclude.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana.

By booking with People & Places you confirm that you have read and agreed to these terms, together with our Cancellation & Refund Policy and our travel insurance requirement.
